I’ve been learning a lot by reading Steve Pavlina’s blog. Now I look forward to reading his book!

Steve Pavlinas Personal Development for Smart People
Steve Pavlina’s Personal Development for Smart People

I bought three copies via Amazon.com . I figured I will have a personal copy, a copy to lend to family and friends, then a third copy to sell to anybody interested. I’m sure there are many Filipinos who read Steve Pavlina too.

If you’re one of them, you can buy a book from me. I’ll ship it to you via LBC when it reaches me by early November.
Write a comment below if you’re interested.
Read more about Steve’s book. You can buy the book directly from Amazon.com as well. Hope you like it too!

Taking Stocks

August 28th, 2008

This is not about assessing the current situation. This is about acquiring stocks from the stock market. :-)

My interest in the stock market heightened when a good friend, Sheryl, told me about trying out online stock trading. I know of a few people who do online stock trading.

Rex was a former officemate who did a lot of stock trading and was good at it. It appeared too technical and complicated for me back in 2006. So I went to the mutual funds at that time.

Last night, I spoke to Celine. In their Ateneo MBA course, they invested real money via online trading. It was interesting because they got to analyze and discuss the group decisions in class. Then at the end of the term, they re-evaluated their decisions, and found out who made the good buys and who said goodbye to their money. Celine shared that some of their classmates used BPI Trade for online trading. Some used Metrobank. I realize now that there are more online stock trading services beyond citiseconline.com.

Abundance

August 17th, 2008

Wayne Dyer
Abundance is not something we acquire. It is something we tune into.

I came back from a trip to the US last month. I found the disparity between an environment of abundance (the US) and an environment of scarcity (the Philippines).

In the US, it was unsettling for me to see so many overweight people. An African missionary in the US told my brother how he was appalled at how anybody can ever have problems from over-eating.

Seeing so much food and overweight people takes some getting used to when you come from the Philippines where we see many hungry children everyday.

***

Within one week of my arrival in the Philippines, we had an office activity with some school children. We fetched 20 elementary students ages 6-8 years old. We brought them to the nearby McDonald’s branch for a few hours of fun, games, prizes and a McDo meal of rice and chicken.

During the activity, repeatedly I saw how Filipino children are inadvertently taught (and thus manifest) behaviors of scarcity. Read the rest of this entry »

Imagine a world without Filipinos

June 26th, 2008

Sometimes we take for granted the contribution we make in this world.

Sometimes we need another person to tell us how much they appreciate the good that we do — only then do we really understand that indeed we have done well.

In the article attached, an journalist from the Middle East reminds his countrymen - and Filipinos as well - the value that Filipinos bring to the world.

Online version here from Arab News, June 16, 2008: Imagine a world without Filipinos

Essence of Being an UPSCAn

June 18th, 2008

UPSCAI joined the UP Student Catholic Action in 1993. Being an UPSCAn had such a huge impact on my life. A big part of my core values as an adult came from what I learned and experienced through UPSCA.

I was asked to speak at the cell supervisor’s training this Saturday, June 21, for the topic “Being an UPSCAn“.

I have a few thoughts to share at that talk.
But then I’m sure many UPSCAns have many other thoughts to share to cell supervisors in-training.

I thus invite UPSCAns to share their one-line reflection on this question:

What is the essence of Being an UPSCAn?

Think about it. Feel it. Then write a comment to contribute your one-line response.

After your one-liner, feel free to greet, explain, express, reminisce, shout out, thank, bump, joke, reflect, squeak, play, pray.

I’ll share your reflections at the CS Training. :-)

“Well, what can I say?”

June 9th, 2008

I was at a wedding last weekend. I was enjoying the celebration, laughing along with the messages, some funny, all heartfelt.

Suddenly, I found myself in front of the crowd beside the newly wedded couple. The groom gave ME a message. I was caught by surprise by the message! With a smile, I just greeted the couple best wishes on their wedding day.

If not for the message that took me by surprise, I think I could have mustered saying something at least a bit witty.

Up to an hour or two after that event, I was thinking about the event and what I COULD have said, Read the rest of this entry »

Lloyd Luna - AGMT!

May 28th, 2008

For the past hour, I’ve been reading about one impressive man. A 26-year old Filipino self-made Millionaire by the name of Lloyd Luna!

I’m blown away! Impressed by what one young man has achieved for himself through sheer action and determination!

Here’s  a quick overview of Lloyd:

This hits me closer to home.

I’ve found very inspiring readings and audiobooks from International speakers like Jack Canfield, T Harv Eker, Anthony Robbins, Steve Pavlina.

But Big Lloyd — HE IS DA MAN, man! ;-)

AGMT = Ang Galing Mo Talaga!

I’ve got a lot to learn from you, my friend! Here’s to reading more of your work, learning and drawing inspiration from you.

p.s. barely 15 hours after I posted this article, a search for “Lloyd Luna” on Google puts Purposeful Penguin on the front page results. Hmmm…. I see Purposeful Penguin is SEO’d quite well. Ayos!

As within, so without

April 16th, 2008

Steve Pavlina has a podcast about how to achieve your goals faster.

One way is to plot out all of the “to do’s” that lead to your goals and do them quickly.
There’s another approach that will help and it’s in the “mind” level, the way we think.

Explained …

Steve has many examples in his podcast, but he says the key message succinctly: “As within, so without.” Read the rest of this entry »

My Interview with Jack Canfield

April 15th, 2008

Interview with Jack Canfield’s associates, that is :-)

I subscribed to Jack Canfield’s newsletter when I started listening to his Audio book “The Success Principles”.

In the newsletter two weeks ago, Jack announced the pilot of their coaching program. I thought to myself, “It’s going to be expensive”. But taking from one of Jack’s tips in the Success Principles, I said: “Oh what the heck, go for it anyway!”

I signed up for an interview and got a call from Jack’s staff the very next day. A few days later, I was interviewed by one of Jack’s 10 or so coaches. It was a process of finding out whether there was a match between where I am, where I wanted to be and whether they found a good match between what I needed and what coaching they could provide.

There were some questions I answered before-hand: Read the rest of this entry »
